I. “Russian Studies in China” International Conference Was Successfully Held in SISU
With the joint effort of China Russian Pedagogical Association and Sichuan International Studies University (SISU), the “Russian Studies in China” International Conference was held on SISU campus from April 4th to 7th. The participants included mainly Prof. Tao Hai, Vice-President of Suzhou University of Sciences and Technology, Russian historian and specialist in Russian culture; Prof. Li Yingnan, Director of Russian Center, Beijing Foreign Studies University; Prof. А.С.Папоян from Russian Normal Uniersity, who also enjoys the titles of Academician of Russian Academy of Sciences, meritorious scholar; Prof. А.С.Папоян, senior Commentator on “The Voice of Russia”; Many other scholars, professionals and students from about 30 universities, research institutes, and publishing houses attended the conference with great excitement and enthusiasm. Prof. Zhu Daqiu, the Director of the Russian center in SISU, was acting as the organizer and main speaker at the conference.
The conference as it was expected put further energy and power into studies in the field of “Russian Language and Literature”, and it also promoted the academic exchange, friendship and cooperation among the participants at the conference. As a positive side-effect, the conference brought fresh vitality for the development of teaching and research in SISU and granted nationwide opportunity for the university as well.
II. The 13th Annual Conference on German Literature and Seminar on German Literature and Modernity Was Successfully Held in SISU
With the joint effort of German Branch under China Foreign Literature Association and Sichuan International Studies University (SISU), the 13th Annual Conference on German Literature and Seminar on German Literature and Modernity commenced at 8 o’clock, April 12 th, 2008. With “German Literature and Modernity” as its main topic, the seminar focused on exploring possibilities of broadened ideological ideas in the context of German literature encountering social historical development and modernity, and looked for supporting speculations and criticism literature need to equipped to challenge Modernity. More than 100 scholars and professionals in German Studies from all over China attended and Prof. Feng Yalin organized and presided the conference and the seminar.
III. International Seminar of “Cultural Memories in German Literature and the Formation of National Value”
With the joint effort of Center of Comparative Studies of Chinese and Foreign Cultures and Department of German Language and Literature, the International Seminar of “Cultural Memories in German Literature and the Formation of National Value” was held on September 26th and 27ty, 2009 in Sichuan International Studies University (SISU).
Prof. Wang Lunan, Vic-President of SISU was present and addressed the assembly at the Opening Ceremony. Those who attended the meeting were famed scholars from China, Germany and South Korea as well as famed scholars from Peking University, Fudan University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Zhejiang University, and Shanghai International Studies University.
Some of the names at the meeting were worthy of specially mentioning which include Prof. Astrid Erll, established scholar in literature memories studies from University of Wupperta, Dr.Feger and Dr. Schoor from Freie Universität Berlin, Dr. Osterheimer from Chemnitz University of Technology as well as Prof. Lee Junrui from South Korea. Enthusiastic Material and Doctorial candidates and students were at the seminar and made speeches, too.
VI. The 2nd International Conference on Narrative Studies and 4th China Narrative Research Seminar was held in SISU
With the commencing progress of new century in the development of society, Narrative Studies as a newly rising research field has showing ever growing promise on the account of its theoretical vitality and percolating power into the discipline. The 2 nd International Conference of Narrative Branch under Chinese and Foreign Literature and Art Theories Association and 4 th China Narrative Research Seminar was held from October 21 st to 24 th in order to deepen the progress in the Narrative Studies and consolidate the academic exchanges between scholars in the East with scholars in the West. The meeting was housed in Hotel of Shanyinqiuming in Sichuan International Studies University (SISU). American scholars Prof. Susan S. Lanser and Prof. David H.Richter,Canadian scholar Prof.Melba Cuddy-Kane,Norwegian scholar Prof. Jakob Lothe, German scholar Prof. Wolf Schmid were at the meeting and delivered speeches. Prof. Shen Dan, President of Narrative Branch and Changjiang Scholar, spoke at both the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Prof. Fu Xiuyan, Vice-President of the Branch, President of Jiangxi Normal University presided the meeting, and Prof. Xiong Muqing, affiliated scholar with the Center, was the organizer and made excellent contributions to the meeting.
