ABOUT THE CENTER

About the Center

The Center for Sino-Foreign Comparative Cultural Studies (CSFCCS) was founded in September, 2005, and was honored as one of “the key Research Centers for Humanities and Social Science Studies” by the Chongqing Municipal Government in 2006. Prof. Feng Yalin is currently the Chair. Structurally, CSFCCS consists of three subordinate institutes: Institute of Comparative Literature and Comparative Culture, Institute of European Studies and Institute of East Asian Culture. CSFCCS Includes two other affiliated institutes, namely, Center for German Studies and Institute of North and South Korean Studies.CSFCCS boasts an academic staff of 4 full-time research fellows, 1 research fellow of the moving station, 20 part-time research fellows from both inside and outside SISU, 2 administrative staff working in the center office and reference room. The major research fellows in CSFCCS all hold professorship and Doctoral degrees. Two of them are PhD supervisors.

Up to the present time from 2006, the scholars in CSFCCS have undertaken a total of 23 research projects, among them 10 are of national level, 8 are of provincial/ministry level, l, 13 have been granted research awards on and above provincial/ministry level. In the last 10 years, more than 65 academic research papers have been published in CSSCI-source journals. The total number of publications of academic monographs, translation works and college textbooks amount to 32. Meanwhile, CSFCCS scholars also shoulder teaching responsibilities, helping with the courses on undergraduate and graduate levels and having cultivated more than 100 graduate students.

In recent years, CSFCCS has successfully hosted quite a number of international and national conferences and seminars, among which are the Seventh Russian Language and Culture Seminar, Seminar on Cultural Perception Theories and Research Models, “Russian Studies in China” International Conference, the 13th Annual Conference on German Literature and Seminar on German Literature and Modernity, the 9th China Foreign Literature Annual Conference, and International Seminar of “Cultural Memories in German Literature and the Formation of National Values". Beside all these academic activities, CSFCCS has also invited overseas scholars like C.BernsteinJoël Loher, В.В.Агеносов, А.С.Папоян, Wolfgang Kubin , Xi Gubo, Astrid ErllMelba Cuddy-KeaneHans Feger and Chinese scholars like Lu Jiande, Yang Wuneng, Liu Xiaofeng, Cao Shunqing, Xie Tianzhen, Yan Naiqiao, Gao Xudong, Cheng Zhongying, Shen Dan, Chen Jianlan,  Xiao Ying, Wang Bingjun, Wei Yuqing, Fan Jieping for lectures and academic exchanges.    

CSFCCS enjoys consistent support from Chongqing Education Committee and Chongqing Federation of humanities & Social Sciences as well as school leaders. Inspectors have been to CSFCCS for inspection and instruction and they highly appreciate the accomplishments and achievements CSFCCS has harvested since the founding of the CSFCCS. They also highly praise the academic level of CSFCCS.
